The Beaver Valley Soccer Club
The Beaver Valley Soccer Club (BVSC) is operated exclusively by volunteers helping out on the committee and coaching the teams to make the Club a success each year.
The BVSC operates under the Beaver Valley Athletic Association (BVAA) in Thornbury. In 1998, Kathy Cassidy founded the Club and entered teams in the recreational Grey Bruce Youth Soccer League (GBYSL) in the U7, U9 and U11 age divisions. The first year saw 98 children participating on 5 teams. The GBYSL league comprises of recreational teams from Markdale. Flesherton, Dundalk, Bogner, Chatsworth, Meaford and Thornbury in the U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U18 age divisions. The BVSC has grown to 315 children from The Town of Blue Mountains, playing on 18 recreational traveling teams, covering all the age divisions in 2008. Also, a new division was organized in 2005 for the U5's to play soccer. There are 50 athletes now playing TimBits soccer in 2008. Thank you to our new 2008 sponsor - Tim Hortons! The U5's practice one night a week and do not travel.
Up until 2007, the U7 age group traveled to play games. In 2008, introduction of a new program to keep all Thornbury teams in the U7 age group home was established, emphasizing on more skill development and shorter games. There are 4 teams. The first half hour is working on skills followed by 2 - 15minute games with each team playing against each other during the season.
The U11-U18 teams played home games on the school field in Thornbury until 2007. The Town of the Blue Mountains purchased property in 2007 to build new soccer pitches for the growing Club. The U11-U18 teams now play all their home games on the new soccer fields at the Tomahawk location. The U5-U9 teams play games at Bayview Park.
Soccer is the fastest growing sport in Canada. The BVSC continues to strive to better improve the soccer program each year. In 2008, a Committee of 12 volunteers and a coaching staff of over 45 enthusiastic volunteers have brought the Club to a higher standard and organization. BVSC offers the coaches training and clinics. Also, Referees are supported by the Club in taking their C4 course. New in 2007 is the website giving the Club a central communication tool for all members to be kept informed.
The Beaver Valley Soccer Club is supported by many generous sponsors. Anyone interested in sponsoring the soccer program should contact the Sponsor Committee Volunteer. The BVSC thanks all the sponsors and volunteers, without you our Club would not be able to operate!
